hpb historisch-politische Bildung

From 2010 to early 2021, the former "Fachdidaktikzentrum Geschichte” and the now Didactics of History published topic dossiers on historical-political education (hpb). These were intended to support teachers at secondary levels I and II in planning and implementing lessons. From 2018 to the beginning of 2021, the publication was carried out together with the Department of History and Political Education at the University of Graz's Department of History.

Structure of the issues in the publication series hpb

• Editorial
  Staff at the Department for History, Social Studies and Political Education provide an introduction to the topic and a brief description of the contents of this volume.

• scientific part
  Experts introduce the current state of research on a specific topic and provide science-related background information that serves as a theoretical basis for specific teaching units.

• didactic part
  Didactic experts present practical teaching examples for secondary levels I and II, which build on the scientific part. The teaching examples are theory- and research-based, process-oriented and media-supported, and are aligned with the Austrian curriculum for competence-oriented history teaching. Students in grades 8 to 13 are thus offered a wide range of opportunities to develop structural thinking, to reflect on it and to apply it independently in new situations. Teachers are provided with suggestions for lessons that correspond to current scientific knowledge.
  All teaching examples are clearly structured and the following points are included: approximate duration of work, target group, skills trained (according to the skills model anchored in the Austrian curriculum), methods and materials used, a possible form of feedback or follow-up, and a process-oriented description of the lesson plan, which ends with a suggestion for securing the results.
