War of Pictures – Bildkultur in Österreich 1945-1955
Press photos from the first decade of the Federal Republic of Germany have shaped our perception of this era through their widespread reproduction. They also served the self-staging of the victorious Allied powers and as propaganda during the Cold War. The exhibition presents contemporary history, i.e. the period between 1945 and 1955, as reflected in media reporting. In doing so, press images and their media staging are also scrutinised. The didactics of history and political education at the University of Vienna (Hanna-Maria Suschnig) has provided didactic support for this exhibition.
